Last Meeting - August 14, 2010
Our meeting of August 14, 2010 was our 8th annual “Silent
Night” event featuring Dean Mora at the piano and Joe Rinaudo with the assistance of Gary Gibson at the 1909 Powers
vintage film projector. After some announcements by Bob Duncan, our good friend and Vice-Sheik from the
Way Out West Tent of Los Angeles, the evening began with WOW Tent Grand Sheik, Jimmy Wiley, Jr., leading us in the toasts
to Stan, Babe and company plus the singing of the “Sons Of The Desert” song. Bob then introduced
Dean, Joe and Gary, inviting Joe to give us a brief background of the upcoming films for the evening. The
program started off with a series of vintage glass slides featuring the most notable “remove your hats” visual
segueing to Snub Pollard starring in his popular and very unique comedy, “It’s A Gift”. This
was followed by a short sing-a-long to the “Sidewalks Of New York” and then Larry Semon with Babe Hardy starring
in “The Sawmill”. After a short break, we resumed our evening’s program with Buster Keaton
starring in his hilarious two reel comedy, “The Haunted House”. During our next intermission,
eight members and guests went home with some very nice prizes from our raffle. The program concluded with
Stan and Ollie providing all of the laughs in two of their classic silent comedies, “Angora Love” and “That’s
My Wife”. We would like to thank Dean Mora, Joe Rinaudo and Gary Gibson for yet another wonderful,
entertaining and memorable evening. Thank you to all of our members and guests who joined us for this gathering
and continue to support our tent. We also want to express a big “thank you” and sincere appreciation
to those who stayed after the meeting to help us put the chairs away.
