 Cinecon is a five day celebration of classic movies which will be held this coming Labor Day weekend, September 2nd to September 6th, in Hollywood, California. A variety of rare silent and early sound feature films plus short subjects will be screened at the historic Egyptian Theater (pictured at right) on Hollywood Blvd.  Celebrity guests will be attending a screening of one of their films and they will participate in question and answer sessions following the film.  Movie memorabilia will be available for sale in dealer's rooms.  Additionally, the Cinecon Career Achievement Award celebrity banquet will take place on Sunday evening, September 5th.  For those who are visiting from out of town, you will be able to receive a special "Cinecon" room rate at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel, located at 1755 Highland Avenue.  The screenings which will take place at the Egyptian Theater is just down the street from the hotel on Hollywood Blvd.  For more details, see the Cinecon website by clicking on the Cinecon 46 link above.  You may also get information by writing to Cinecon 46, 3727 W. On Saturday and Sunday, September 18th and 19th, a special "Ticket To The Twenties" gathering will take place at the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum in the City of Industry.  Our good friend, Dean Mora and his orchestra will be perfoming at this event which is free and takes place from 4:00PM to 8:00PM on both dates.  For more details, click on the  "Ticket To The Twenties" link above.  You can also print out the Ticket To The Twenties Flyer below for reference.

On Saturday, September 25, 2010, a 75th anniversary celebration of Republic Pictures will take place at the former site of the Republic Studios lot, now known as the CBS Studio Center located at 4204 Radford Avenue in Studio City, California.  This special event, which is presented by The Cultural Affairs Committee of the Studio City Neighborhood Council and the Museum of the San Fernando Valley, will take place from 11:00AM to 5:00PM.  Among the celebrities expected to attend are Adrian Booth, Anne Jeffreys, Ann Rutherford and Peggy Stewart.  As many of you already know, Republic Pictures is the studio that produced The Fighting Kentuckian starring John Wayne and Oliver Hardy as his sidekick, Willie Paine.  For more information, click on the Republic Pictures 75th Anniversary Event link above.

The Way Out West Tent of Los Angeles will be hosting a tour of Laurel and Hardy film locations on Saturday, October 23, 2010.  Included on this excursion, will be a visit to the final resting places of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy along with more sites.  Lunch will be included in the registration fee.  Tour registration forms will be mailed to all Way Out West Tent members who receive newsletters around the middle of September.  For more information, be sure to check the Way Out West Tent website at www.wayoutwest.org for updates or click on the Laurel and Hardy Locations Tour link above.

Music Box Steps Day

On Saturday afternoon, October 23, 2010, the Silver Lake Improvement Association will be hosting its' 16th Annual Music Box Steps Day celebration at the actual film site of Laurel and Hardy's "The Music Box", located between 923 and 935 Vendome Street in Los Angeles.  The event will take place from 12:00PM to 3:00PM and will provide entertainment, a raffle, free food and screenings of "The Music Box".  For more information, call (323) 663-7641
